Special pickup (bulk item pick up) requests must be made by 3pm at least 3 business days prior to the resident’s normal trash collection day.
All bulk pickups need to be put out on non-recycle days only.
Bulk pickups are picked up on regular trash pickup days, and if scheduled 48 hours before the regular trash pickup day, it will be scheduled for the following week’s regular pickup.
We define a bulk item as a large piece that cannot fit into the cart. When the cart program is rolled out in January, bagged material must be inside the resident’s cart. Bulk items commonly include mattresses and box springs (which can be set out together as one item), chairs & ottomans (can be set out as one item), couches, toilets, empty hot water tanks, etc. These are common household bulk items. However, there are some items that require actions from the resident prior to us being able to collect or are not acceptable:
- Appliances: If they contain freon, the freon must be removed by a technician and tagged to confirm its removal. Additionally, doors must be removed for safety reasons.
- Hard Pieces: We cannot accept stone, brick pavers, bricks, or concrete-like pieces at all.
- Large Entertainment Centers: Entertainment centers need to be broken down as best as possible, and any glass pieces must be either taped to avoid shattering or broken down and put into a sealed cardboard box.
- Mirrors/Glass Pieces: Mirrors and glass pieces (like storm doors) must be taped and/or broken down to avoid shattering during the compaction process.
- Tires: We cannot collect tires at all.
